Introducing the new Google Nexus One Cell phone. Why this phone was not available for Christmas no one knows, but one things for sure, the communication age just got a lot cooler. The phones are retailing from Google for $529 or $179 for activation with T-Mobile. This is huge for a phone manufacturer to be able to offer their devices to all mobile platforms proving once again that Google is truly pioneering use-ability on the web. You can even get your phone custom engraved if you like, but beware because engraved phones are non-returnable and I am sure there are going to be more than a couple of kinks likely to be worked out with the initial roll out models. Nexus One is 4.68″ tall, 2.35″ wide, and only 0.45″ thick. The phone also features a high-resolution, 480×800 pixel screen and the Nexus One weighs only 4.69 ounces, or approximately 53 pennies. These aren’t the only features that the Nexus One sports, Nexus One features a noise-cancelling microphone, for clearer conversations, a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, so you won’t need an adapter and features a 5MP camera with LED flash.

Android

Android was developed with one simple idea: Open up mobile devices to enable greater innovation that will benefit users everywhere.

Google first executed on this vision a little over a year ago, when they launched Android on one device with one operator in one country. Today, they have 20 devices with 59 operators in 48 countries and 19 languages. And because Android is free and open source, it continues to flourish. Android allows devices to be built faster, and at lower cost. And anyone can build anything on top of the platform. This ultimately benefits users.

To help adapt Android to the needs of consumers, Google has applied their engineering resources to selected projects with handset makers and operators. Together they have improved the rate and pace of innovation in mobile phones. The volume and variety of Android devices today has exceeded even our most optimistic expectations. Google believes they can accelerate the pace of innovation further. Google thought: What if we work even more closely with our partners to create devices which showcase some of the great software technology we’ve been working on? And what if we make those devices available for purchase through a new, simple online web store from Google?

Well, today they’re pleased to announce a new way for consumers to purchase a mobile phone through a Google hosted web store. The goal of this new consumer channel is to provide an efficient way to connect Google’s online users with selected Android devices. They also wanted to make the overall user experience simple: a simple purchasing process, simple service plans from operators, simple and worry-free delivery and start-up.

The first phone we’ll be selling through this new web store is the Nexus One — a convergence point for mobile technology, apps and the Internet. Nexus One is an exemplar of what’s possible on mobile devices through Android — when cool apps meet a fast, bright and connected computer that fits in your pocket. The Nexus One belongs in the emerging class of devices which we call “superphones.” It’s the first in what we expect to be a series of products which we will bring to market with our operator and hardware partners and sell through our online store.

Manufactured by HTC, the Nexus One features dynamic noise suppression from Audience, Inc., a large 3.7″ OLED display for deep contrast and brilliant colors and a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon™ chipset for blazing speeds. Running on Android 2.1, the newest version of Eclair, the software includes innovations like a voice-enabled keyboard so you can speak into any text field, fun Live Wallpapers, a 3D photo gallery for richer media experiences and lots more. Of course, it also comes with a host of popular Google applications, including Gmail, Google Voice and Google Maps Navigation.

Today, the web store allows you to purchase the Nexus One without operator service or with service from T-Mobile USA. We expect to add more operators, more devices and more countries in the future, including Verizon Wireless in the U.S. and Vodafone in Europe. To learn more about the Nexus One, and our new web store, we recommend checking it out for yourself by visiting www.google.com/phone. We look forward to seeing how our new program and the Nexus One contributes to accelerating innovation on mobile products for the benefit of users worldwide.

Google just launched a new Site Performance experimental feature in Webmaster Tools that shows you information about the speed of your site and suggestions for making it faster.

This is a small step in our larger effort to make the web faster. Studies have repeatedly shown that speeding up your site leads to increased user retention and activity, higher revenue and lower costs. Towards the goal of making every webpage load as fast as flipping the pages of a magazine, we have provided articles on best practices, active discussion forums and many tools to diagnose and fix speed issues.

Now we bring data and statistics specifically applicable to your site. On Site Performance, you’ll find how fast your pages load, how they’ve fared over time, how your site’s load time compares to that of other sites, examples of specific pages and their actual page load times, and Page Speed suggestions that can help reduce user-perceived latency. Google’s goal is to bring you specific and actionable speed information backed by data, so stay tuned for more of this in the future.

site-performance

The load time data is derived from aggregated information sent by users of your site who have installed the Google Toolbar and opted-in to its enhanced features. We only show the performance charts and tables when there’s enough data, so not all of them may be shown if your site has little traffic. The data currently represents a global average; a specific user may experience your site faster or slower than the average depending on their location and network conditions.

Here’s yet another great tool recently developed by Google in their spare time if you can believe that. This tool couldn’t be better for web designers and site owners to visualize exactly what their visitors are seeing no matter what screen size they are on. Read more to find out what it’s all about…

In a newspaper, the most important story is featured on the front page. If it’s a really important piece, then it’s placed “above the fold,” which means you can find it on the top half of the first page — the bottom half is folded behind and isn’t readily seen when you first look at the newspaper.

The same concept applies to browsers as well. There’s no clear line for “above the fold” on a browser — there are many different sizes of monitors, browsers are not always full screen and other things like toolbars can take up space. Consider a “Donate” button on a non-profit site. If it’s far down the page, you may not see it when you first view the page. You can of course scroll downwards, but many people don’t scroll and will miss it entirely. For example, on the download page for Google Earth, the install rate increased by 10% when we moved the “Download” button 100 pixels upward. We can attribute that increase to users who wanted to try out Google Earth, but didn’t see the button before.

To help you understand how everyone sees your website, Google created a tool called Browser Size in their 20% time. Browser Size is based on a sample of data from visitors to google.com. Special code collects data on the height and width of the browser for a sample of users. For a given point in the browser, the tool will tell you what percentage of users can see it. For example, if an important button is in the 80% region it means that 20% of users have to scroll in order to see it. If you’re a web designer, you can use Browser Size to redesign your page to minimize scrolling and make sure that the important parts of the page are always prominent to your audience. Google hopes people will use this tool to make their websites better, in turn making the web better for everyone.

I know many of you have been waiting patiently for this and now the moment is upon us. We present to you the new and improved DFMFIT.com Dynamic Fitness Management.

Dynamic Fitness Management does not believe that personal training is defined, as a trainer following a client from machine to machine and counting 3 sets of 12-15 repetitions for them. We know our clients know how to count! Therefore, the focal point of our training sessions is the Dynamic Workout. A Dynamic Workout consists of functional exercises that are designed to not only focus on the main muscle groups of the body, but also strengthen the core muscles, which is a major factor in preventing injuries. Each Dynamic Workout is specific to the individual client. It is tailored, customized and designed by a certified and experienced personal trainer. The Dynamic Workout is not only based around the fitness goal of an individual, but also around the fitness level of an individual.
